Close Biden Colleague to Ethiopia to Discuss Tigray

 CNN posted on 18 March 2021 a story titled "Biden Dispatches Democratic Senator to Ethiopia Amid Tigray Crisis" by Jennifer Hansler.

Senator Chris Coons of Delaware, a close associate of President Biden and a member of the Senate Foreign Relations Subcommittee on Africa and Global Health Policy, will visit Ethiopia to discuss the situation in Tigray Region and related issues.  The Biden administration also announced an additional $52 million in assistance to respond to the humanitarian crisis in Tigray Region and the deployment of a USAID Disaster Assistance Response Team.

Conference on China and Africa

The Center for American Progress in Washington is hosting on 18 December from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. an event titled "One Continent, Two Approaches: The U.S. and China in Africa." It will look particularly at how the U.S. can reclaim its role as Africa's number one trading partner.

Senator Chris Coons, Chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Subcommittee on African Affairs, will make a keynote address. This will be followed by remarks from the following panelists: myself, Joshua Eisenman, senior fellow in China studies, American Foreign Policy Council, and Daniel Runde, director of the Project on Prosperity and Development, Center for Strategic and International Studies. Former Congressman Tom Perriello, counselor to the Center for American Progress, will moderate the panel discussion.

Senator Coons Reports on East Africa Trip

Senator Chris Coons, chairman of the Senate Africa Sub-Committee and a Democrat from Delaware, gave a briefing at the Center for Strategic and International Studies on 19 June 2012 following his recent visit to Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda. In response to questions, he also addressed other African issues.
