Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed's pursuit, by force if necessary, of access to the Red Sea is ill-timed following major conflict in the country. Ethiopia needs to pursue this goal peacefully, perhaps through the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea legal framework that permits landlocked countries like Ethiopia to assert their access rights.
