The Voice of America published on 1 March 2024 an article titled "Where Is China in the Red Sea Crisis?" by Carla Babb.
Except for escorting a few Chinese commercial ships through the Red Sea and reportedly asking Iran to ask the Houthis to end the drone and missile attacks on commercial shipping, China and its three naval vessels in the Gulf of Aden and Red Sea have been absent from the crisis, which affects most trade between Europe and Asia. US officials are becoming increasingly frustrated at China's lack of engagement.
