Russia's Growing Influence in Africa

 The International Crisis Group posted on 2 October 2025 a 7-minute video titled "Russia's Growing Influence in Africa."

This is a brief survey of African countries where the Wagner Group was engaged, and its activities increasingly are being taken over by the Africa Corps. The video ties Russia's interests to the extraction of natural resources such as gold and strategic access in eastern Libya. 

Mali and CAR Support Russia on Conflict Diamonds

 Reuters published on 16 June 2022 an article titled "Top Producer Russia Thwarts Move to Redefine 'Conflict Diamonds'" by Helen Reid.  

Supported by the Central African Republic and Mali, where Russian Wagner Group mercenaries are operating, Russia torpedoed a Western-backed proposal to discuss whether diamonds are funding war.
