Interview on Ethiopia and Horn of Africa with Oromo TV Channel

 Oromia 11 interviewed me for an hour on 4 April 2021 in a program titled "Waan Talk - Conversations on Ethiopia and Horn of Africa with Amb. David Shinn" hosted by Mathias Gudina.  

The conversation focused on developments in Ethiopia, both current and historical, but also dealt with related issues in the Horn of Africa.  Much of it concerned U.S. policy in the region.

Conflict in Ethiopia: Video Discussion with Three Former US Ambassadors

 The Foreign Policy Research Institute posted on 30 March 2021 a one hour video discussion on the conflict in Ethiopia with three former US ambassadors: Aurelia Brazeal, Vicki Huddleston, and myself.  

This was a wide ranging discussion that focused on the situation in Tigray Region but also dealt with ethnic federalism, the role of Eritrea, the evolution of the TPLF, national dialogue, and the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam.

Is Yemen Following the Somali Pattern?

The Globe Post posted on 20 July 2018 a commentary titled "Yemen's Fateful Twinship with Somalia" by Abukar Arman.

The author concluded that it is hard to imagine a different fate for Yemen than for Somalia--numerous balkanized political entities cursed with perpetual distrust and hostility. The only way to change this trajectory is to accomplish what Somalia has been struggling with for decades: a genuine reconciliation followed by a rigorous campaign to sacrifice claims of exclusive tribal rights for inclusive equal rights for all Yemeni citizens.
