USAID Dismantlement Contributes to Health Care Clinics Closure in Sudan

 Doctors Without Borders posted on 8 September 2026 an article titled "Aid Cuts Leave Millions Without Health Care Across Sudan."

The dismantling of USAID in 2025 resulted in the end of funding for many organizations working in Sudan.  Although the United States continues to be the single largest donor to Sudan, many of the health care providers have been unable to find alternative funding and, as a result, health facilities are shutting down.  The few remaining hospitals are reaching the breaking point, and local clinics are going unfunded.  An estimated 37 percent of Sudan's health facilities are out of service.

Funding for Premier US Infrastructure Project in Africa Threatened by USAID Dismantlement

The signature infrastructure project in Africa of the Biden administration, the Lobito corridor railway designed to link copper mines in the DRC and Zambia with the Angolan port of Lobito, faces uncertainty as US funding by USAID and the US International Development Finance Corporation is frozen by the Trump administration.  This creates an opportunity for global competitors, especially China.  

Somalia: European Union Funding and the Future of AMISOM

The Institute for Security Studies (ISS) published in December 2017 a report titled "Impact of EU Funding Dynamics on AMISOM" by Omar S. Mahmood and Ndubuisi Christian Ani, both ISS researchers.

The European Union has placed a cap on the amount it is providing for AMISOM peacekeeper stipends. This decision widened a rift between AMISOM and its partners over its record of achievement and future trajectory, leading to planning for the withdrawal of AMISOM from Somalia.
