The Voice of America posted on 22 March 2022 an article titled "Ukraine War Heightens French, European Concerns Over Russia's African Presence" by Lisa Bryant.
Operating through the mercenary Wagner Group, Russia is replacing French security in countries such as Mali and the Central African Republic. In view of Russia's invasion of Ukraine, this engagement has ramped up Western worries about Moscow's expanding influence in Africa. There is no guarantee, however, that the Wagner Group will succeed where others have failed.
