The New York Times published on 31 January 2023 a commentary titled "Russian Mercenaries Are Destabilizing Africa" by Colin P. Clarke.
Last week the U.S. Treasury Department designated Russia's mercenary Wagner Group, which operates widely in Africa, as a "transnational criminal" organization. The author argues that it should go further and designate it as a "foreign terrorist" organization.
