China-Africa Trade Increases, But So Do African Trade Deficits

 Forbes posted on 23 September 2025 an article titled "Africa-China Trade Increases Amid Global Uncertainty, but a Mutually-Beneficial Mindset Is Needed" by Freddie Hiney.

There has been in 2025 a sharp increase in China-Africa trade.  But most of the increase is due to more Chinese exports to Africa, resulting in even larger African trade deficits.  

Chinese Automaker Returns to South Africa

 Business Insider Africa published on 24 September 2025 an article titled "Chinese Automaker Stages Major Comeback in South Africa after More Than a Decade Away" by Soloman Ekanem.

Chinese automaker Geely is reentering the South African market after having left in 2009 due to economic pressures and strong competition.  Geely has secured 35 dealerships throughout South Africa.  This move is part of Geely's global expansion.

Ethiopia Bans Sinotruk Brand for Safety Reasons

 Ethio Negari posted on 16 August 2025 an article titled "Ethiopia Bans Entry of China-Made Sinotruk Vehicles."

Ethiopia's Ministry of Transport and Logistics has banned the importation of Sinotruk vehicles citing serious quality and technical defects that pose risks to public safety.

EU Imposes Duties on Chinese-made Wheels Manufactured in Morocco

Morocco World News published on 24 March 2025 an article titled "EU Aluminum Wheel Tax on Morocco Reveals Trade War Brewing with China" by Adil Faouzi.

The European Union is imposing compensatory duties on Moroccan exports of aluminum wheels manufactured by Chinese companies, which take advantage of Moroccan free trade agreements to enter the European market.  The EU decision is not directed at Morocco but rather at China.

China: Assembling Cars in Cameroon Is a Challenge

Quartz Africa published on 31 October 2017 an article titled "For a Chinese Company Building Central Africa's First Auto Plant It's Been a Bumpy Road" by Mbom Sixtus.

A Chinese company is in the process of establishing Central Africa's first car assembly plant in the industrial zone near the Chinese-built deep water port of Kribi. Eventually the goal is to manufacture the cars in Cameroon. In the meantime, the company has encountered bureaucratic delays and there have been allegations of corruption on behalf of Cameroonian officials.
