This is the opening statement on 11 September 2024 of Acting Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs, John Bass, on "Great Power Competition in Africa" before the House Committee on Foreign Affairs.
The statement is critical of China's trade practices in Africa. It is even more critical of Russia's widespread human rights abuses and disinformation activities on the continent.
