Kenya-South Sudan Border Dispute

 The Conversation published on 16 February 2023 a commentary titled "Ilemi Triangle: How Resources Fuel East Africa's Border Conflicts" by Al Chukwuma Okoli, Nigeria's Federal University of Lafia.  

The Ilemi Triangle, land claimed by Kenya and South Sudan, is rich in oil and water.  The quest for resources drives the conflict.  It is one of many boundary disputes in East Africa that require a regional border management mechanism to find enduring solutions to disputes often driven by disagreements over natural resources.

Kenya-Somalia Indian Ocean Boundary Dispute

High level diplomacy to solve the Indian Ocean boundary dispute between Somalia and Kenya has been halted by the coronavirus pandemic. As a result, the situation is ripe for small scale skirmishes and shows of force by both sides.

South Sudan and Northern Uganda: Boundary Disputes and Land Governance

The Rift Valley Institute published in 2016 a lengthy study titled "Dividing Communities in South Sudan and Northern Uganda: Boundary Disputes and Land Governance" by Cherry Leonardi and Martina Santschi.

This detailed study explores the histories and present realities of demography, ecology, livelihoods, social relations and land governance in South Sudan and northern Uganda.

Sudan Studies Association Annual Conference

The Sudan Studies Association (SSA) will hold its 33rd annual conference at the University of San Francisco on 23-25 May 2014.  The title of the conference is "Sudan and South Sudan: Boundaries, Borders and the Challenges of Nationhood."  SSA has issued a call for papers.
