China-Zambia Agricultural Relations

 The Institute of Chinese Studies in Delhi published in 2021 a study titled "China-Zambia Economic Relations: Perspectives from the Agricultural Sector" edited by Veda Vaidyanathan.  

It contains the following chapters:

--Bilateral Trade Relations between China and Zambia over 2000-2018 by Caesar Cheelo.

--Chinese Investments in Zambia from 2000-2018: A Sectoral Analysis by Veda Vaidyanathan and Mukundi Aganwal.

--Enhancing Zambia's Human Capacity? The Dynamics of China-Zambia Agriculture Skills and Knowledge Transfer by Musadabwe Chulu, Nkumbu Nalwimba, and George T. Mudimu. 

--Artificial Intelligence in Zambian Agriculture: Case Study of a Chinese Firm 'XAG' by Muyobozi Sikalubya.

Russia Tries to Ramp Up Relations with Africa

The Institute for Security Studies published on 13 March 2018 an analysis titled "Russia and Africa Meet Again" by Ronak Gopaldas, director at Signal Risk.

The author commented on the recent visit to Africa by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, noting that Africa's relationship with Russia is complementary rather than competitive. Russia is interested in obtaining African political support as it works to increase its relevance on global issues. It sees the advent of the Trump administration as a good time to reassert itself in Africa.

China: Embracing Africa, But Not Africans

The Diplomat published on 29 January 2015 a commentary titled "China: Embracing Africa, But Not Africans" by Paul R. Burgman Jr., a  graduate student at Nanyang Technological University in Singapore. 

The author argued that China must still convince Africans that its interest in their continent is authentic.  He suggested that if you scour the internet under the keywords, "Chinese prejudice against Africans in China" you will find a litany of blogs and articles on the experiences of young African migrants, students, and travelers, many of whom are proficient in Mandarin, as they recount their experiences in China.

China in Africa: Trade and Investment

The Initiative for Public Policy Analysis, an independent policy research organization in Lagos, Nigeria, published in 2014 an analysis of China's trade and investment with Africa titled "China in Africa: An Evaluation of Chinese Investment" by Thompson Ayodele and Olusegun Sotola.  The analysis tends to heap praise on China's engagement in Africa while glossing over areas where others have expressed some concern. 

China Radio International on China-Africa Relations

China Radio International (CRI) invited me to join two other panelists on 9 May 2014 for an hour long, wide ranging discussion of  China-Africa relations linked to the visit to Africa by Chinese Premier Li Keqiang.  The other panelists were Victor Gao, former English-language interpreter for Chinese leaders and now a current affairs commentator, and Norbert Haguma, a Rwandan who is the CEO of Beijing-based Kiziga, which arranges for Africans to study in China.
