Sudan Conflict Impacts Stability in Chad

The International Crisis Group published on 1 September 2025 an analysis titled "Keeping Chad Stable as Sudan's Conflict Rages."

Chadian support for the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces in neighboring Sudan's war with the Sudan Armed Forces has embroiled Ndjamena in the conflict.  Chad also hosts about 875,000 Sudanese refugees and 300,000 Chadian returnees, creating a humanitarian crisis.  The end of US aid, increasing crime, and ethnic conflict are exacerbating the situation.  The UAE is playing an outsized role in Sudan and Chad.

Sudan: Battle for North Darfur Capital of El Fasher May Decide Future of Country

The International Crisis Group published on 16 April 2025 an analysis titled "Battle for Darfur Reaches Fever Pitch as Sudan's War Enters Third Year" by Shewit Woldemichael.

The Sudan Armed Forces (SAF) still holds the North Darfur capital of El Fasher, which is under heavy siege from the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF).  If the RSF succeeds in capturing El Fasher, it will control nearly all of Darfur, setting the stage for what many fear could result in a de facto partition of Sudan.
