Rwanda's Military Follows China's PLA Example

 China-Africa Security Radar published on 6 July 2025 an article titled "Rwanda Celebrated for Copying China's Homework in Military Development."  

An article published in China praises Rwanda for modeling its military development on the example of the People's Liberation Army (PLA).  The article claims that about 73 percent of Rwanda's active-duty officers have undergone Chinese military training.  Much of Rwanda's military equipment is Chinese and its military doctrine and culture look much like the PLA's.

Secretary Blinken Counters Foreign Minister Lavrov in Africa

 Agence France Presse published on 29 July 2022 an article titled "Blinken to Counter Russian Charm Offensive in Africa."

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken is headed for South Africa, the DRC, and Rwanda in what appears to be an effort counter Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov's effort to sell its invasion of Ukraine to Africans.

Let the Press Tell Us What Is Happening in Ethiopia's Tigray Region

 Ethiopia Insight posted on 19 February 2021 a commentary titled "Catastrophe Stalks Tigray, Again" by Jan Nyssen, Ghent University. 

The government of Ethiopia says the situation in Tigray Region is under control; others say it is out of control except for Mekelle.  There is an easy solution to resolving this conflicting information.  Let the international and domestic press into the region.

China-Rwanda Relations

China's Global Times interviewed Rwanda's ambassador to China on 3 May 2017 following President Paul Kagame's March visit to Beijing.

The ambassador acknowledged the similarities between the ruling Rwandan Patriotic Front and the Communist Party of China. He suggested the Chinese development model is more appropriate for Africa than the Western model because Western aid comes with political strings and Chinese aid does not.
